oakley Hijinx Stephen Murray

New in box oakley Hijinx StephenMurray signature series.

Oakley release the Stephen Murray Hijinx™, a Signature Series special edition that salutes the courage of its namesake BMX Dirt Jumper and three-time U.S. Gold Medalist who suffered a career-altering spinal injury in June of 2007. Featuring metal icons with UK lions that acknowledge Stephen’s proud English heritage, the frame is styled with custom graphics based on his family crest tattoo.

The new Stephen Murray Hijinx™ comes with aggressive styling worthy of the lionhearted champion. In addition to the custom graphics on its stems and icons, a “Stay Strong” emblem is printed on the inside of the right stem. The clean lines of Oakley Hijinx™ are crafted from durable, lightweight O Matter® frame material. A comfortable Three-Point Fit keeps the lenses in precise alignment, letting High Definition Optics® (HDO®) maintain unbeatable clarity. Twin toric lens curvature maximizes side protection while opening peripheral vision with patented XYZ Optics®. The pure Plutonite® lenses of this special edition come with Black Iridium® coating for optimized performance in medium to bright light. A custom Microclear™ bag is included for lens cleaning and eyewear storage.

Stephen represents a level of courage and strength that honors not only the athletes of action sports but anyone who has ever faced seemingly insurmountable challenges, and we are saluting him with this special edition of Oakley Hijinx™,” said Colin Baden, president of the company. “Oakley is proud to honor Stephen’s fighting spirit by helping support his ongoing recovery efforts with $20 from each sale of this sunglass,” Baden concluded

Oakley has made me part of its family for years,” said Stephen Murray. “I’m grateful for their support, and I’m proud that this new sunglass sends out the ‘Stay Strong’ message. My approach to riding is to give 110%, to go big and send it. That’s the attitude Oakley takes with technology, and this frame combines Oakley’s best innovations with art that tells the world what my life has taught me: When you think there is nothing left, reach within and dig deeper — believe in yourself,” Stephen concluded.

On June 22, 2007, Stephen was competing in the BMX Dirt Finals at the Dew Action Sports Tour in Maryland when he crashed in the middle of a double back flip. The 27-year-old athlete suffered what has been described as the worst crash ever seen in BMX. Three of his cervical vertebrae were crushed and he suffered severe damage to his spinal cord. The front of his vertebrae had been shattered, leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

Stephen Murray came to the United States from a career in Great Britain that earned him six UK National Championships by age 16. In the States, he took to Dirt Jumping and Freestyle with gravity-defying maneuvers including double back flips and 360 back flips. The years 2001 and 2002 marked the highest achievements in his career with gold medals in dirt jumping at the X Games, and back-to-back gold at the Gravity Games.

A website and fund have been established to help provide financial support for Stephen’s ongoing recovery. For more information, please visit www.stephenmurrayfamilyfund.com  and www.myspace.com/murraystrong .
