Northwave constructed the uppers of its Typhoon Evo shoes along its signature Airflow System design. This system places ventilation in key points throughout the uppers, sides, and bottom of the shoes. The forward and aft vents cool feet while the side ports supply continuous fresh air.

The Typhoon uses two hook-and-loop straps over the forefoot and an S. B. S (Step By Step) ratcheting system over the top of the foot. The hook-and-loop straps provide a customizable adjustment to the shoe's volume, while the S. B. S. system creates a stable closure that won't come undone or loosen while riding.

And along the lines of efficiency, the Typhoon features Northwave's ultra-light and ultra-rigid Carbon Light Sole. The thin, carbon fiber construction of the sole brings foot closer to the pedal, increasing power transfer. The stiff composition of the carbon decreases the risk of energy dissipation, furthering the efficiency of pedaling efforts. And while power transfer is crucial, the longevity of the soles is of equal importance. For this reason, Northwave uses a fiberglass center channel at the middle of the outsoles. This seemingly minute feature provides a durable, lightweight interface between the cleats and outsoles.
Even more importantly, with Northwave's Speedplay Adapter kit, the shoes are compatible with every imaginable cleat brand.

The Typhoon also features an Omega Heel construction. The heel is made with ventilation ports toward the bottom of the shoes that work in tandem with the AirFlow System. The heel piece has also been molded to fit the heel so the foot stays securely in place on the upstroke to maximize efficiency. Additionally, the bottom of the heel has improved traction for walking on pavement.
