Caia Koopman was born in Livermore, CA and today resides down in sunny Oceanside. Growing up on the west coast when skateboarding was beginning to define a culture, she found her niche in the art world. Always involved in the surf, skate and snow community, which all run deep within the Oakley family, Caia’s “characters” have donned snowboards, skateboards and surfboards at times. Caia was chosen for the Oakley Women’s Artist Series for all these reasons as well as her graphic approach to painting. She uses strong lines, patterns and her shapes aredeeply defined. Not to mention she always mixes in nature to her compositions, making it a unique and beautiful masterpiece. Majoring in fine art and earning her B.A. at UC Santa Cruz, California, this is the place that seduced Caia to the local skateboarding scene. In addition to receiving an academic education, Caia also learned to skate ramps, streets, pools, and Derby Park. Skateboarding led to skateboard graphics, and her first limited edition team T-shirt design for Santa Cruz Skateboards. After earning her art degree, she turned her attention to snowboarding and spent many winters following the snow. It was her love for the sport that inspired Caia to strive for a career creating snowboard graphics and later branching out to become a commercial artist and finally a fine artist as well. Her artwork has been featured in numerous national and international print media including Surfing Girl, Mademoiselle, Details, Girl's Life, Snowboarder Magazine, Teen, Teen Style, Teen People, J-14, Fine , and others. Caia designed T-shirt graphics and promotional illustrations for many companies, such as: Quiksilver/Roxy, Hurley, Op, AT&T, and Casio. Caia’s paintings have been used commercially for many years as graphics for snowboards, skateboards and wakeboards. She has shown her paintings in a number of galleries around the world and most recently at La Luz de Jesus in LA. Caia is inspired by nature, dreams, politics, and life.

Fi'zi:k's innovative designs and top-shelf materials are putting a fresh face on cycling shoes. The R3 SL Uomo Shoes is no exception. Building on the existing R3 platform, the SL Uomo forgoes kangaroo leather for a full MicroTex upper. This rendition satisfies the vegan cyclist and weight watchers alike, while still creating one of the lightest and stiffest shoes on the market.
The R3 SL features a three hook-and-loop strap closure system. This system allows fully tune the fit and volume of the shoes both pre-ride and on-the-fly. The bottom two straps control the snugness of the fit at the metatarsal and instep areas, and the top strap controls the entry/exit point. Together, the three strap system eliminates any internal foot slippage that depreciates efficiency. To evenly distribute pressure across the top of the foot, Fi'zi:k made the strap dimensions wide. The strap design allows easily lengthen or shorten the strap in order to precisely dial-in the volume of the shoe. Also, each strap has been crafted from fully-adjustable length sail cloth in order to bolster durability while maintaining a low overall weight. For an extreme control over volume, or simply to efficiently clean the inside of the shoe, Fi'zi:k designed the tongue pad to be fully-removable.
To further control slippage, the R3 SL has shaped the heel cup at the aft position of the shoe. This feature keeps the foot in the perfect position on hard up-strokes and while climbing out of the saddle. As a result, you're powering the pedals comfortably and efficiently. This has been further heightened by a variable stiffness sole construction. The base layer is an ultra-stiff carbon fiber plate. Second layer has been positioned closer to the heel. This layer is constructed from a material called Tepex that's a little more malleable than the carbon fiber in order to accommodate and support multiple heel and arch sizes. Encompassing both of these layers is a polyurethane Mobius rail that strikes the ideal balance between elasticity and rigidity. Together, the multiple layers work hand-in-hand with the insole and 3D upper to keep the heel in place and to maximize comfort.
And on the topic of comfort, Fi'zi:k went above and beyond to make the R3 SL extremely breathable. The uppers have been constructed from the same MicroTex synthetic leather that graces Fizik's saddle. This material keeps your feet breathing and comfortable on long summer days in the saddle. And for the insole, Fi'zi:k included its own Dual Density Eva. And while its not custom moldable like with the R1's 3D-Flex, it does incorporate a thoughtful design that assures comfort by absorbing road vibration and supporting your arch system.
The R3SL will come with their standard insoles. They have a dense foam pad over the cleat area to mitigate road buzz that can fatigue the feet. The heat moldable inserts of the R1, which use a memory foam panel, are available as an upgrade separately.
